Week 16 Results

Week 16: 2-0-1

Season: 2-0-1 (obviously my record is much different, but there’s no point including my games pre-blog, so I’m just starting with week 16 and continuing until the Super Bowl.)

Wins:

Minnesota Vikings +3 at Baltimore Ravens
New England Patriots -6.5 at New York Jets

The Ravens had a 13-point 4th quarter and ended up beating the spread - if you teased it like I recommended, it would’ve been even more convincing. As the start of the New England game approached, some lines increased from -6.5 to -9 and -9.5…either way, you’d have the win, but when a favorite looks that good, bet right away - as the week progresses, odds usually change in favor of the underdog.

Pushes:

Chicago Bears -7 at Green Bay Packers

This game looked great going into the 4th quarter with Chicago leading 24-7. I was hoping Aaron Rodgers would get some time and then the game would be iced. However, Antonio Chatman’s punt return completely shifted momentum, and that’s just a bad betting beat. You can’t win ‘em all…so when you push the rest, life isn’t bad. ;-)

Week 16 NFL Picks

Filed under: NFL Picks — Mr. Football @ 2:26 pm

Only a few games to pick from this week - let’s take a look.

5:00 pm
Chicago Bears -7
Green Bay Packers

Although the Bears offense usually doesn’t put up too many points, this is a great matchup for Chicago. Favre throws more interceptions than anyone, so the Bears D will have plenty of opportunities to either score or set up scoring opportunities for the offense. Speaking of the offense, I like their scoring potential much more with Rex Grossman at QB, so covering by a TD should not be a problem against the lowly Packers. If Aaron Rodgers steps in, even better.

8:35 pm
Minnesota Vikings +3
Baltimore Ravens

Minnesota needs to win if they want any chance at making the playoffs, but sadly, it won’t happen this week. Baltimore is surprisingly good at home (5-2), and their defense has been playing great the last couple of weeks. Teasing Baltimore would make this bet a bit safer as both teams have been wildly inconsistent all year, but the Ravens will come out on top at home - hopefully it’s by more than a field goal. ;-)

9:05 pm
New England Patriots -6.5
New York Jets

This spread looks wonderful any other time of the year. However, the only factor that should worry gamblers is the playoffs - Indianapolis and Denver have clinched first-round byes, so one question remains: will New England try to win out to have the better playoff seed, or just rest their starters and enter the playoffs with a healthy squad?

Quite frankly, it probably doesn’t matter. The Patriots starters can beat the Jets by 20. Their backups? They can beat them by 10. This is a good bet no matter who plays - the Jets are terrible and should not be able to do much against the Patriots defense. New England’s D has allowed 10 points total in the last three weeks, so the Jets shouldn’t expect to post much more than a touchdown. Take New England to the bank here, folks.

Good luck!
